Application Checklist

Required Documentation
The applicant is responsible to ensure that all required documents are received by the School of Graduate Studies.

Transcripts - Two (2) official transcripts of their complete university-level academic record by all universities previously attended. Transcripts in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by an English translation provided by the institution issuing the transcript. We will not accept photocopied transcripts or those printed from a university website. Degree and graduation certificates must be included if the transcript does not indicate the type of degree and date granted. Transcripts must be received from the issuing university in sealed envelopes. We do accept notarised copies of transcripts.

Letters of Recommendation - Two current academic recommendations are required. If you have been out of university for a number of years, one or more professional recommendations may be included, however all effort should be made to include academic recommendations. Recommendations can be submitted electronically if the applicant has used the online application or by paper. If submitted by paper the recommendations must be in a sealed enveloped signed by the referee. We do not accept photocopies or recommendations more than two years old.

Proof of English Proficiency - TOEFL or IELTS, or MELAB - We require proof of English proficiency if English is not your native language. All test scores must be received directly from the testing agency, before your application is complete.

When requesting the testing agency (ETS) to forward TOEFL test results please use the Institute code 949 and Department code 66.

Statement of Interest / Statement of Research - Require a statement relaying what area of research you would like to pursue and give reasons why and what you have to offer. This can be part of the online application or emailed to the Department or a hard copy can be included with your other documents that are mailed in.

Curriculum Vitae- We require a curriculum vitae. A curriculum vitae is a detailed, structured listing of education, publications, projects, awards and work history. This document can be part of the online application or emailed to the Department or a hard copy can be included with your documents that are mailed in.

List of Courses - This is optional. We are looking for a list of courses you have taken but more importantly the description of the courses. We can see the list of courses you took on your transcript but the title of a course does not always explain well what you actually studied. You don't have to include all the courses you took but those that are relevant to your research interest. If you are applying for a Master's Degree we are interested in a list and description of the engineering related courses you took in the last 2 years of your undergraduate degree. If you are applying for a PHD Degree we are interested in a list and description of the courses you took for your Master's Degree. The course descriptions should come from the university calendar. This helps the Department understand your back ground for the area of research you wish to do graduate studies in. This list can be part of the online application or a hard copy can be sent with your other documents.

Proof of Landed Immigrant Status - If you have landed immigrant status please send us a copy of your Permanent Resident card or your landed papers.

Documents that are not part of the online application are to be mailed to:
